Our Culture
Our culture is tied to our mission, which is to understand how the world’s markets and economies work, and to translate that into world-class investment performance. This requires an extraordinary team, defined by the best individuals and the best portfolio of people, operating in an idea meritocracy. In this, we are uncompromising on our shared values of excellence, truth, integrity, humility, and courage. Our aspiration of a vibrant idea meritocracy requires diversity of thought – this comes from diversity of background, identity, experience, and so much more. We pursue inclusion because it’s how we unlock the power of that diversity and make sure the best ideas get heard. To sustain this way of being through lots of years and lots of circumstances, we invest in meaningful work and meaningful relationships – the purpose and joy that comes from tackling something challenging and worthy, alongside people who make us better versions of ourselves.
About the Team
Bridgewater has a long history as an asset manager in Asia. It started when our founder, Ray Dalio, first visited China in 1984, and we have been managing money for sophisticated institutional investors in the Asia-Pacific region ever since our first Chinese client invested in 1993. Trading Asian markets have always been a core part of our global macro investment strategies, and several Asian economies feature prominently in the research we have published on debt cycles and the changing world order. We opened our first foreign office in China, and in 2018 we launched our first China-focused investment strategy, which has since grown to become the largest wholly foreign-owned private fund in China.
The goal of the Asia Solutions team within our Total Portfolio Strategies department is to continue our growth journey of being the premier investment management firm in the region. Total Portfolio Strategies (TPS) aspires to shape our industry by conceiving and delivering innovative investment strategies that address our clients’ biggest goals and challenges. This entails developing great investment strategies reflecting our expertise, generating alpha in the markets, researching and publishing our understanding of the macroeconomic environment, and designing solutions to help our clients invest across the region.
About Your Role:
Our Investment Engineers are an integral part of our investment process. On a day-to-day basis, your mission is to understand how the world’s markets and economies work and codify this understanding. You will spend your time designing and building the algorithms which are used to generate Bridgewater’s views on markets, translate those views into portfolios, and trade those portfolios. Every piece of investment logic is owned by the Investment Engineers who are 1) experts in their investment domain and can hold the whole model of the investment system in their head, and 2) designers that build systems which beautifully express and run our investment logic that evolves with our investment understanding. Given the flat structure of the team, Investment Engineers can get exposure to the investment thinking of some of the most senior investors at the firm.
